Julie Piepenkotter is Senior Vice President of Content Research & Analytics for FX and leads all facets of content and consumer research and data analytics across FX’s global multi-platform portfolio on Disney Streaming and linear cable networks FX and FXX.
Based in Los Angeles, Piepenkotter joined FX as Senior Vice President of Research in 2009 and was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2013. When 21st Century Fox assets were acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2019, Piepenkotter rejoined the Disney Entertainment group where she began her research career as an analyst in 1989. In addition to FX, Piepenkotter leads Content Research & Analytics for ABC News, National Geographic, and 20th Television.
Piepenkotter plays a leading role in providing analyses and insights that enable FX and the broader Disney Entertainment constituencies to better understand and manage the rapidly evolving media ecosystem. She has been instrumental in creating FX’s multi-platform analytics tool designed to equivalize, aggregate, and compare data across both streaming platforms and linear networks. Concurrent with this build, she leads the championing of “comparable metrics” at both FX, Disney Entertainment, and across the industry at large in order to properly evaluate, trend, and contextualize content performance and demography. Piepenkotter also works closely with senior executives across FX and the entire Disney Entertainment group on strategic initiatives, including the utilization of data and insights to provide competitive analysis and to highlight trends that inform and advance the group’s overall corporate objectives. During her tenure at FX, Piepenkotter has become one of the industry’s most respected and trusted senior research executives and guest lectures at Carnegie Mellon University, UCLA, USC, and Stanford.
Prior to joining FX, Piepenkotter spent 20 years working at The Walt Disney Company, most recently as Senior Vice President of Research for the Disney ABC Television Group. She began her career as a media buyer/planner with The Leo Burnett Company in Chicago.
Piepenkotter received a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Loyola University of Chicago, majoring in communication studies and minoring in philosophy.
