Liz Friedman

Showrunner, Executive Producer, Writer

Liz Friedman arrived in Los Angeles from Wesleyan University with almost no connections and one prize winning sociology thesis to her name, entitled “Final Girls and Neighborhood Nightmares: A Feminist and Class-Based Analysis of Slasher Films.” An unpaid internship at Sam Raimi’s Renaissance Pictures led to a position as Raimi’s assistant, and later to job as an executive, developing and producing Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, and Young Hercules (introducing the world to a young Ryan Gosling.)

Later, she transitioned to writing. Friedman wrote on the staffs of Hack, Numbers, the O.C. before developing and co-writing (with Jenji Kohan) the pilot for Netflix’s signature series Orange Is the New Black. The script was nominated for Writers’ Guild and Emmy awards. She has also written for Elementary and Jessica Jones, as well as creating Conviction for ABC (a show which even Friedman’s parents are unsure was ever on the air.) She joined The Good Doctor in the second season; she served as executive producer before stepping up to for the final 3 seasons. Most recently, she served as showrunner on ABC’s Dr. Odyssey.

Friedman lives in Los Angeles; she is devoted to her wife, their two sons and two dogs.
